Arizona Senior Academy — The Academy is a non-profit organization devoted to life-long learning, it’s the source for educational and cultural programs that complement the health and wellness programs provided by the Village HOA. All residents of the community are also members of the Academy. Membership in The Arizona Senior Academy also includes non-residents from Tucson and around the country.
The Academy was founded by Dr. Henry Koffler, President Emeritus of the University of Arizona. Dr. Koffler’s mission was two-fold: to create a community whose residents would have easy access to life-long learning and to have the opportunity to give back to the larger community.
Academy activities are supported by a monthly fee that is separate from the Homeowner’s Association assessment. Throughout the year, Academy members are provided with programs, seminars, and concerts. Members also enjoy 5- and 10-week courses, mini-courses, and panel discussions. During 2008, the Academy sponsored well over 175 such events.
Community service is a major interest among members of the Academy — making school presentations, mentoring students, serving as Science Fair judges, and sponsoring aspiring young musicians.
